You should make this fun Moto Magic 2 to race around a smooth floor of even outside. Show our friends they will be amazed! When you are ready put some WORK or ENERGY in the machine by turnig the drive stick many times, don’t go too far you might snap the elastic. Just try it out. When wound up the energy is now stored in the elastic as POTENTIAL energy. When you put the Moto Magic 2 on a flat surface the elastic wil unwind, the potential energy goes now into KINETIC energy as the machine rolls around its track. There are other ways to have fun with the Moto Magic 2, just find out!

The materials you need to make the Magic Moto 2 are easily available from the delicatessen counter you get a plastic container with lid, you need a piece of steel binding wire, a paper clip might do, bend it in the U-shape as shown. Burn a centre hole in the container and lid with a hot soldering iron or a piece of coat hanger that you heat up in a candle flame. Also make two more holes in the bottom for the steel U-shape. It will hold the elastic. You need a stick about 30 cm long and a medicine cup to act as a washer. Some coloured electrical tape for decoration and you are in business.

The U-shaped wire piece is put through the hole of a large steel washer, then throught the hole in the bottom of the container, pull it further through to the top and assemble it further, see next step. The large steel washer keeps the Moto Magic 2 firmly on track especially when it goes fast!

The assembly is fairly simple: pull the elastic through the bottom hole of the container, then through the lid, add the medicine cup as shown and two steel washers, then pull a loop in the elastic and put the drive stick through it. Presto, you are done! Now add a little colour to it.

You made it! The Magic Moto 2 is ready to roll! You will be surprised how well it runs on a flat surface. Add a little oil between the two steel washers or a little vaseline will do the job of making it run faster, because there is lower FRICTION.

Ready to Go! It will run in circles and you can skip over it or have fun any other way!

Show your Moto Magic 2 to your teacher or help your friends make one, then you can race them. The girls and boys at the Kingston Boys and Girls Club, had all ten of the machines going at once and they jumped up every time one came by. You can also hold the drive stick in your hand and let the container twirl, it will go fast. The ENERGY in the wound elestic spins it around like a gyroscope. Have fun…
